The Paint Chip Series

“The Paint Chip Series” is an ongoing series of miniature acrylic paintings on commercial paint chips. I began this series in 2016 after a trip to the hardware store where I grabbed some paint chips with the idea to collage with them. At the time I was experimenting in my studio with new methods of painting as well as collage. While deciding how to use these colorful swatches of color I thought about how wonderful they would be to paint on. Throughout art school I enjoyed painting on smooth panel and paper versus textured canvas. The paint chips ended up being a fantastic painting surface. At first I didn’t consider the paint color’s name and just used the paint chip as a canvas. But after a few early paintings I realized that I should illustrate what the paint chip says. From then on I continued the series this way; the subject matter directly influenced by the name and color. Since 2016 I have painted hundreds, possibly over a thousand paint chip paintings.

All of the paint chip paintings are acrylic and come mounted on acid free card stock and framed. If you have any questions about my work or would like to commission a custom paint chip painting, please contact me.
