About Lydia

I am a painter specializing in miniatures. I currently live and work in Appleton, Wisconsin with my partner Sam our black German Shepherd named Bronson and black cat named Loki. Besides painting I enjoy cooking, going to flea markets and antique malls, watching home makeover shows, and traveling!

“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.” - Maya Angelou Your perception, mindset and attitude is the biggest hindrance to change. My view of the world has definitely shifted. The paint chips I use in my artwork also looked different today. What were once gimmicky words and phrases, arbitrarily placed on paint chips in order to sell paint, now feel extremely relevant. Some of these words I am taking to heart and others I am questioning completely... . . “Illuminate me” - self educate on racial injustices, history, privilege, biases. . . “Soul Searching” - deep self reflection of who you want to be and what your role is in this society. . . “Statue of Liberty” - what does our country even stand for? How can we call ourselves the home of the free? . . “Weather the Storm” - can we make it through this and after the metaphorical clouds clear will the sun shine on us and let positive change come? . . “State of Mind” - this probably needs to change or you need to help change others. Is your complacency with the status quo part of the problem? . . “Word of Mouth” - share news, share injustices, share hope, share opinions, share ideas, share love, share your voice - you deserve to be heard. . . “Pursuit of Happiness” - straight from the Declaration of Independence, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government.” ...perhaps we will... . . “Safe Haven”- this should be a right as well, but it feels more like a privilege and a farce .
